"Varanis Blackclaw is a Vectarr, a species of anthropomorphic beings that existed in the realm of Mystarr as a precursor to the feral beasts mortal men know as dragons. They accumulated power over their world through the use of mighty war machines powered by unstable magics and caused a cataclysm which sent most of their kind away; those remaining behind for penance were punished by the Gods for the destruction of their world. These poor souls were transformed into the monsters that have roamed the world since time immemorial, but the few Vectarr that remained hidden have found a new world where they salvaged their once great civilization and started again"
