One of my car show pals is a veritable encyclopedia of knowledge of classic cars and their repair - both American and European! - and when he made an offer two years ago to restore all of Betty's mechanicals, what can I say? I had to go for it. So, looks like the time has come to have all those things done that I never had the money to have done before - and all for a tiny fraction of the thousands of dollars it would have cost by now to have done in an actual garage. It's good to have friends. :)
I'm also glad to be having this done ahead of our eventual emigration to the Toronto-area. Trying to find someone who still knows how to work on old-school Detroit technology is hard enough. Trying to find someone who can do it competently and at a good price is harder still!
This is my girl up on Dr. Dave's lift, early in the process. Next to her is Doc's '53 Ford that he's restoring. You've heard of Doc Hudson, Doctor of Internal Combustion? Betty has Doc Bishop, Doctor of Internal Combustion.
All these will be put into scraps later.
