There was a hill where the village had something of a communal property, where everyone had a small patch of land for fruit trees and vegetables. That's where we picked the bayberries. Most of southeastern China is hot and humid from May through September, so it was like being in the tropics out there.
Bayberries are pretty good, quite different. They've got an unusual texture and a pit, and are somewhat like a cross between a cranberry and a strawberry. More juice though.
The area's name is Xiaqinxi village. It is nearby the city Yiwu.
