Which I'm pretty sure is Italian for "playing guitar while sitting in another dude's lap."
I haven't posted anything in a while, so I threw something loose down tonight. It's not that I haven't been arting lately, so much as I've been working on pieces that folks are going to be publishing, so I can't really post them here yet ^_^ I guess more news on that front as it comes along <3
So yeah, for now here's a happy laundry day scene. I'm almost positive the kangaroo is singing Magnetic Fields.

Hehe, they only own one tank top and one jock between them -- I guess they trade off ^_^ I'd intended the birds to be generic songbird-y sorts of things, but it does read a little ominous there after all the fiddling around with the colors...
This one started out as creme and blue (kinda like all my other stuff 9_9...). It went through a yellowy-green phase briefly, then came out super-red (also not particularly surprising ^_^).

This is totally me trying to have your art baby, dude.
And I like how we had an edifying discussion about the merits of using reference, and then I proceed to totally BS my way through another pair of figures 9_9 I'll learn eventually...
But yeah, thanks for being totally inspiring.

The depth of story you’ve put into this, Kamui, fascinates me. That overall sepia tone hints at the style of the Old Masters. Then the hanging laundry, the flying crows and the creeper on the wall just outside of the intimate moment all suggest enough of the world the lovers (?) live in to easily allow the imagination to head off into the fantasy that your picture suggests.
Thanks for the submission and I look forwards with enthusiasm to seeing more of your work when your RL schedule allows.

Always happy to delight, dude! Thanks for the comment.
I definitely find more and more that I enjoy doing scenes more than I enjoy straight pinup work. It's just fun to think about what sort of world the characters are living in, what's going on around them, when and where the snapshot was taken, etc. I think with this one, I was going for romance amid the everyday. Lavish dinners and red roses are great, but I think making the little moments shared while your underwear's drying on the line romantic is even better ^_^
Glad to hear it's telling a story to folks viewing it as well! And like I say, I have other art lying around on my computer at this point, but until the folks I'm working for decide to make them public, I'm holding off on sharing here ^_^ Hopefully shouldn't be too long now, though.

For the visually oriented, ‘doing a scene more than straight pinup work’ is perhaps the artist’s way of telling stories. The Who’s, the Where’s and hopefully the Why’s of a story.
In real life it’s by our collecting those quiet little moments that a life lived with someone special is best remembered. “Bel Canto” is a beautifully depicted example of such a moment.
*standing applause for the artist*

Yeah, it's a huge downer of a book. But the new Mag Fields album is good, so I guess it balances out, cosmically ^_^
I was kind of trying for the sort of laconic, sleepy happy expressions that you see in like Botticelli's work, so I'm glad it comes across as soft and warm. Thanks for the comments!

splendid piece o' work, man.
thoroughly chill.
the sense of motion & life in this is just wonderful.
like... the bird's shadow down in the corner. nice touch :]
little things like that really set the mood of a given work.
thanks for spreadin' the visual awesomeness.
always a pleasure to gaze upon.

Chillness was definitely what I was going for ^_^
And yeah, I really like working in a lot of contrast into my stuff, so I wanted some kind of burst of sound and movement outside to contrast the stillness and quit strumming going on inside, so I figured a couple of birds flapping away would work. After doing one bird, though, I was like SCREW THIS DETAIL and just made the others into shadows to save having to paint in feathers <3

I always like this kind of "unity of effect" you have in most of your stuff. Colour, texture, composition, the works. Not enough people think of how a picture holds together beyond its character subject, and often end up with a stark "pinup" look with no supporting subtleties.
Of course, I'm plainly guilty of it, too, though I have a symbol/iconic thing going and do character designs.
Way to go, sirrah!
(Still having trouble getting a response from FurPlanet. Might have to go 3rd party with ordering Work In Process. ;_; )

Yeah, I did pretty much nothing but floating characters on the page for a long time because "omg backgrounds are hard," but now that I've started forcing myself to do them, I'm learning that they aren't as scary as I'd thought, that they really help the image as a whole, and that I'm developing those skills now, so it's like a win-win-win situation. I'll still occasionally do pure figure work if I'm feeling lazy, but anymore I usually find I have some idea for the background that I'm excited to try just the same as I have some idea for the figures. In my head, it's stopped being a matter of having to draw a backdrop for the figures and started to be just painting a scene.
But yeah, if you're doing character designs, you shouldn't be worrying about doing backgrounds ^_^ Unless that background or props directly inform the character, it's kind of beside the point <3
And good luck with the book -- sorry it's giving you trouble >_<

The two-tone thing is the result of my sketching process, really. When I go to sketch something out, I'll usually throw down a base color, then pick a new color and paint on that, toggling back and forth between the two tones to establish the forms and values. Once those are in, it's basically just a matter of throwing on some texture, tweaking and balancing the colors, and other sort of endgame stuff.
Sometimes a few more colors creep in along the way, but in general, I feel like each color you add is another new moving part that can potentially go wrong and detract from the piece. Keeping the palette simple is a way to make sure I don't get in over my head. There are folks with really amazing senses of color like
oCe and
fabercastel who can get a broad palette to marry well, but I'm just not really there yet in my understanding of color ^_^

Thanks! I don't know that I'd ever call this porn -- there's definitely an eroticism there, but it certainly wasn't intended to be that sexually charged. Then again, porn is kind of in the eye of the beholder. If it gets you off, I guess that just means you're really classy, haha ^_^
Seems I was a bit more tired than I thought to mess up my thoughts on this so much. What I meant to say was that among all the porn on this site, this one sticks out as erotic and artistic, not just another piece among hundreds of others.
Never would call this one porn, mind you. :)
