Ah hah! there in lies a decent question.
you DON'T fill the card.
upload pics frequently to your computer, archive by event, as necessary, by day, month, and year.
I generally, upload at least once a week, or after a lot of pics were taken, usually less than a hundred or two. and dump into a month by month folder, and when I feel adventurous, I'll create subfolders and organise by day.
but that's the trick. I've never come close to filling one of my cards. and I've never even NEEDED the second one.
...should sell it.

oh, indeed, it's nice to have the space, I once went on a two week vacation, and only had a 1 gb card.
it wasn't enough.
but I was taking video, which the camera I was using, didn't have any compression, so it was really quickly filled.
but for my long trips, now.
I bring my laptop.
if I wanted more, I bring an external drive with it!!!!!
thus, 4gb card is more than I'll ever need, so long as the pics I take are as large as they always are.
maybe ten years from now, I'll be taking larger images, but by then a 32gb card will be easily available. so rawr.
