Kodiak was originally in the comic when I started it back in high school. He was the male fill in for Bear, when *I* had no such inspiration in my life to draw from.
I've met someone who makes me think about Kodiak and what he represented, and they both fit each other very well. So...
I haven't decided if he's a polar bear or a spirit bear, the white version of the Black bear (which my Bear happens to be). The red marks are a physical reference to the man Kodiak now represents (besides the fact that they are both huge and bear-like).
The simplicity of the drawing speaks to something in me. I wish I could draw like this more often.
