I love it whenever artists upload their unfinished work-in-progress stuff :) I don't do it very often, but here's one :)
For Anthrocon this year, I'm doing a brand new bookmarker set: Mythical Equines :) The first one I'm working on right now is Unicorn. It's just the flat marker colouring right now (and I still have to colour in the orange on the monarch's wings)...but so far so good :)
I'm trying it out as a non-inked drawing, just to see how it'll turn out. *keeps fingers crossed for luck!*
I had an original sketch of this, but I traced it onto a different bristol board with my light table...so if I muck-up, at least I still have the original sketch to re-do it. Once I got it looking right, I used grey, pink and yellow pencils to outline various things: pink to outline the roses and part of the gown, grey for the unicorn and part of the dress, and yellow for her cloven hoof fingertips.
Once I coloured in the pink (for the roses and gown) and grey markers (for the butterflies), I taped up all the area that's close to where the sky is, and had to cut out the tape...so that the tape would cover the unicorn and butterflies but not the parts that would become sky and grass (this took FOREVER!). Once I got that cut out, I put down several layers of blue markers for the sky, different shades (both Prismacolour and Copic) to get them to blend together. Then I drew in a tree with a green marker and a few branches and the trunk with a brown marker (I REALLY hope this tree turns out good!) I only put in a darker shade of green for the leaves so I can remember where the clumps of leaves are.
Still a lot of work to be done with this...the next step (after colouring in the reset with markers - like the butterfly wings, hooves, etc.) is the colouring of this with pencils and shading it.
So far, what you see here, is about 3 hours' worth of work O.o; Most of it was spent cutting out that darn tape! XD
