Yes, you're seeing this. The Cat of a Million Muses is a brony. Why? It's pretty simple: I love good writing. It's the same reason I was a fan of Star Trek: Voyager- it had a great founding premise, and when the writing was good, it really lived up to it. I still get shivers over the line "Time's up."
But enough of geeking over the wrong show. This show has good writing, and has it in spades. Interwoven story arcs, well-developed characters, messages I actually want my nephews and niece learning, great music, and plenty of humor for the grown-ups, too. I am a fan. That's not to say that I don't occasionally have my gripes- I wanted to smack the writers for not including Luna more in "A Canterlot Wedding" (http://quiltasticink.deviantart.com.....mble-314974217 represents my preferred choice for what should have happened in the wedding hall)- but on the whole, I very much enjoy the show and look forward to seeing what happens next.
I never planned on developing a persona character for the setting, but he just kind of popped up in my head one day. No visible image, but plenty of backstory. So when
clemikou offered to design him, I happily accepted. (Her art's awesome, by the way. Go watch her!) I handed her his name and basic backstory, sat back, and this is what she came up with. (Okay, that's a lie- I kibitzed terribly during her livestream until I finally made myself shut up and leave the room so she could work unhindered by my absolute lack of artistic design skills. Trust me, it was 'Art of the Dress' all over again.)
Thus, Pathfinder. Explorer and cartographer, contemporary and occasional (reluctant) companion to Daring Do. (Yes, that means he's a fictional character from a fictional story read by fictional characters in a fictional story. Recursiveness is magic. ;) ) She will occasionally drag him along on her crazy adventures because his specialty is maps and navigation- his maps are superb, and even without them his direction sense and spatial memory is uncanny. He's not her equal in combat and agility, but he makes up for it by being cautious, well-prepared, and very, very smart. He's a muddy-hooved Macguyver to her Indiana Jones, and when the chips are down, she knows she can count on his backup.
That's mud on his hooves, not fur coloring, and the silver tube is a map case.

You know they couldn't include Luna if they wanted the villain to last out the episode. I mean, come on, Celestia needed the Elements of Harmony to win against her; Chrysalis would have been paste.
That's right, I watch it as well. Not really by choice, so I don't consider myself a brony per se, but I have to admit it's a lot better than most of what's on TV these days.

I see an error there... A younger (and potentially less skilled) Celestia needed the elements against Nightmare Moon, not against a Luna perhaps still recovering from her exile and her second blasting with the Elements. I would have been very happy with the following scenario: Celestia on the ropes under Chrysalis' assault, Luna's intervention and entry into the fray ("YOU SHALL NOT HARM MY SISTER!" in full Royal Canterlot Voice), the Mane Six making a dash for the elements while the two sisters fight together against Chrysalis. Unicorn Gatling Cannon! The Mane Six are nonetheless captured. Meanwhile Celestia, still weakened from her solo session, buckles, and Luna is close to collapse protecting her alone. Cadence and Shining Armor take advantage of the distraction (instead of Chrysalis suddenly deciding to ignore the power source she just used to kick the living daylights out of Celestia) to save the day. Afterward, Luna apologizes for not having been there from the start, and promises that she won't fail her sister again. Celestia waves off her apology, replying that Luna can't be everywhere and that she's glad that Luna came as soon as she could, and wraps her in a hug. Wedding! Applejack puts her hat back on while Rarity's not looking! Wedding dance! Cadence's formerly mind-controlled bridesmaids show up with a battered bouquet split three ways and ask if they missed anything. Hallan looks for some wine to go with such a cheesy remark! End credits!
Mm. That might conflict with the headcanon (which may be common among the writers as well) that Luna is actually the more powerful of the two, having wielded the Element of Magic originally. (You may notice they take great pains to avoid showing who's leading the assault against Sombra in "Crystal Empire", even before you realize that turning him into a shadow sounds more like Luna than Celestia.)
Oh, well. Considering Chrysalis and the changelings were a last-minute addition to the plot, I suppose we should be glad there aren't more holes.

TL;DR version: I don't like the toys. I like the show. I like the story, not the merchandise. Suggesting otherwise would be as silly as saying that someone who is a fan of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie trilogy must collect Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom action figures, and I know you're smarter than that.
