it's almost like characters with deep-seated issues and ptsd take a while to get through them and can't instantly fix themselves and may still wrestle with things silently from time to time

also sartre is referencing that mite geneology links colour to sex. females are typically grey while males are typically brown (sort of like how calico cats are typically female). i wrote a whole lot about mites here once upon a time.
