I read somewhere that before the christians came and converted people in Europe, that some cultures worshiped a diety known as Baphomet. To those people he was a good god, a god of fertility or life or something.
But after the christians came, they started assosiating Baphomet with the Devil, because in the bible, God's people are sheep and sinners are goats. And so Baphomet went from being a good god to being an evil god, and a story says that when they christians came, their god fought him and forced him underground and into hiding.

I can't remember where I read that, but it was that story that inspired this picture. I drew it ahwile ago but was too lazy to upload it =P If you can see it (damn scanner) there are hands reaching and pulling on Baphomet: hands from both heaven and hell, for he belongs in both, but neither. And you can see a faded halo and wings, cause he used to be something of an angle.
