Don't worry guys, this doesn't actually happen in Nyxis's story! It's an alternate universe idea where she's either flipped her lid or has been the evil advisor all along. 0o
Also, this piece is a hodgepodge of inspirations. I totally got the idea in the first place from My Chemical Romance's "Sing" around 3:30 in the music video:

(MCR actually has a story going on, and "Sing" is the last part. The first part is called "Na Na Na", if you want to watch them in sequence.)
And I referenced Phantom of the Opera's "Masquerade" scene for the background and main colors.
I started this sometime last year as lighting/painting practice and decided to finish it tonight because I couldn't sleep OTL. WHEW am I glad I had it done! I learned that I have a long way to go in terms of realistic lighting. XP
Also making a cameo (as the male in the crowd behind Nyxis) is
Kalowolf's Garrick the Snow Leopard/Wolf. Because cameos are fun! :3

I like the letterboxing, and the shadow you have falling over Nyxis' face is extremely compelling. I love the abstraction of the background, and those wall panels behind Eflasia, too. Your instincts are soooo gooood. I wish I could fave this a hundred times, but I'm just going to camp out here and keep finding new details to look at. :3
HNNGH BIG COMPLIMENT FROM MAB *Faints*
Aw, thank you so very much! I had to keep telling myself not to go into worrying about getting it perfect in the end or I'd never get it done! >w< Thanks again, and this is really big encouragement for me to keep practicing at painting. =D

Haha, noooo, don't faint. xD
The thing about 'perfection' is that it's largely dependent on what you're trying to capture: is the lighting realistic? Yes. Is it perfectly accurate to real life? I don't really know, but does it work as dramatic lighting and further drive home the point of the piece? Yes, it does. I think that's what 'perfect' would be in this case. Photorealism is awesome, but sometimes you need to bend the rules of reality just a little to further the illustration, and I think you did that quite admirably here, while keeping it grounded in reality. ;)
Keep practicing, absolutely. Your improvement is showing with every piece. It's easy to see the work you're putting into it, and I'm still staring at this piece today. There are still details and techniques to observe. :3
