This is one of my oils. The painting is on a 9 inch x 17 inch canvas (an odd size to be sure).
Two years ago I was at Lake Tahoe, on the California side of the lake. I had my paints, and saw this plant called a "Golden Chain."
This was painted totally out-of-doors in..., four hours flat!
It's been hanging on my wall, but I may just take it down, remove the frame, and put a coat of varnish on the painting. I really need to do more of these one-day's.

Actually I've been able to keep my work area rather clean. I use just enough to cover the canvas. As for drying time, you can purchase and add an accelerant to the paint; it cuts the drying time to a day or two (instead of, say a week).
But I like the long drying time, because if I see something that needs to be changed, or if I can brighten up the color, it's easier when it's still wet.
I've never tried pastels yet, but I do have a quality set of pastels and paper (from France). I have worked with pencils too.

Well, I'll tell you what I'll do. The canvas is currently in a local fair, but I can't get to it with a camera (even the artists are forbidden to photograph their work on display out of copyright fears).
As soon as the fair is over I'll rephotograph and post a larger image.
