That's the beauty of macro shots. They allow you to see things that you normally wouldn't see. :)
These little pricklies are not very big when viewed with the naked eye.

The prickly things have a noticeable texture to them, and i like how they stand out against the blurry background-it's very pleasing to the eye.

I'd wager it's a Monkey Puzzle Tree, an evergreen that is native to central Chile and west central Argentina, but can be convinced to grow basically anywhere that is temperate.

I do like the photo. I would just do it a bit differently now. I hadn't yet learned how to use apertures when I took this. Since then I've also switched over to shooting full time manual and in RAW format.
