Today we have the smallest breed of male gryphal, and one of the less grotesque. They are based on common household felines, as well as hawks and falcons. Small, swift, and very agile, these deceptively cute little creatures were designed for two specific functions. The first was to be set loose as solitary units on the battle field under the direct command of Mishaka, who marked his own troops with a magical 'scent' that kept the dryn from attacking them. They were created to use their strong, spined, prehensile tail to latch themselves onto the weapon arms of enemy fighters and tear at shoulders and necks
Their second function was more of a natural behavior built into them. They had a tendency to live in swarms of twenty or more, once seen as high s a hundred and twenty dryn in a single swarm. These swarms were placed in areas that could not effectively be patrolled or directly stationed by regular soldiers for supply issues or geographic problems. A swarm of Dryn was generally released in the area to make it too dangerous to enter, even for friendly units and other larger gryphal.
They were effective in their injuring and killing capacities, however, the dryn were stealthy, but not very cunning. They had by far the most under developed minds of all the breeds of male gryphal. They had no problem solving skills, very little survival instincts beyond eat drink and kill, and they had no ability to differentiate friend from foe other than their identical scent of their swarm members. Entire patrols were reported lost to accidental crossing into dryn protected areas.
The fearless little beasts often attacked and even killed much larger creatures. In their early days, unsuspecting families took them in as pets, only to be found in nearly unidentifiable tatters the very next day after bringing their new 'pet' home.
