Well... I'm learning. It's better than the tapir, I think. At least, it was good enough to put in the gallery and not scraps, this time. On the other hand, I have a hell of a lot left to learn about drawing on the tablet. One very important thing I learned is that I really need to develop some more patience to do fur. Also, I might need to consult the book I have on painting fur and feathers and see what, if anything, I can adapt to digital work from it. (It goes over such things as acrylic, watercolor and pastel.)
At least I'm proud of the little hand and foot. There were hands and feet and I didn't cover them up! And they aren't totally horrible. I worked from a reference picture, and in it, the little guy (or gal) was on someone's thumb. But after all that time on the dang opossum, I wasn't especially interested in rendering a thumb (honestly, I wasn't that keen on it before spending the time on the opossum), so I discovered GIMP has a sphere rendering filter. I'm not thrilled with it, but the important part of the picture is the baby itself, so eh? It's more for learning than anything anyway.
I'm still trying to capture the magic that was the bilby. Honestly, this was going to be black and white and sketchy just like that, but then it started with adding the pink to the nose and feet and tail... and then I just felt committed and had to keep going.
At some point I'll actually manage to try my idea of black and white sketching, like the bilby, and then just doing a color wash over parts. Instead of going overboard and trying to attain new things that are just a bit beyond me still.
Overall, not bad, but I'm not entirely pleased, either. I know learning is a process, but I can't help wanting results now.
