Aryl quite likes reading, mostly science fiction novels.
Kalasian literature has some unique qualities; many, though not all, books are written in pairs, meant to be read simultaneously with both heads. These have two distinct but intertwining stories, perhaps from the point of view of two different characters, or perhaps of events in one world or time period that mirror those in another. The books have timing marks at each line or paragraph so that the proper parts are read together, and synchronizing their reading is one of the first skills a young kalasian learns after learning how to read. These books are among the galaxy's most challenging works to translate, as most species have only one brain (or counterpart) and are thus incapable of parsing multiple texts at once.
On a side note, all kalasians are nearsighted in their lower eyes, and farsighted in their upper eyes. This provides a clearer overall field of vision, but is often a nuisance to the modern kalasian. Aryl has near perfect eyesight, but must wear glasses when using hir upper head to read.
This was a birthday gift from
unstableimagination, who is in all sincerity one of the best artists I know at drawing every intricacy of a species and bringing characters to life. His(?) merging art is amazing, too!
