Tommy is a bit of a skeeball addict...many trips to the beach side arcade would see him sink quarter after quarter into the machines to rack up as high a score as possible.
Rather than play for tickets though like at some machines, the arcade Tommy plays gives out prizes based on score. Here, Tommy is about to set his personal highest score of 410 points; the ball seen here is the last in his current game and will land him 30 more points.
The prize for this score? A siberian husky plushie. :3
(based on real world experiences; and yes, my all time high score in skee ball is only 410 points. I know, I'm bad. XD)

I've actually done this wind up once while playing skee ball. However, it was just me showing off, when I actually released the ball, it was with a regular, nothing special roll. XD
But in other instances, yeah, you'd be right. This kind of wind up will just lead to confusion and disappointment. XD
