If he was the same fox who was eavesdropping from the front of the cart on their way into the town, how did he regrow his forelock so quickly?

Or did he just keep it combed back as part of his disguise?

Combed and tied back :P I like to think it behaves like Yu-gi-oh's hair... can be restrained or gotten wet, but the instant it's dry/free, SPROING back into shape.
