Eye of the Storm
Another illustration commission for
gilian
It's been awhile since my last overall green-toned illustration. Designing the background was a bit tricky since the staging of the characters were so symmetrical, thankfully it all worked out in the end. It's funny that Storm is actually the name of the green dragon on the right.

I had to look twice at this one. I thought they were under water at first and was thinking "Electricity? Under water?? OUCH!" Then I realized they weren't, so that's all right then!
I love the yin-yang symmetry of this one. The clouds (now that I'm more awake and seeing them properly!) look fluffy, yet dangerous and stormy, and the lightning has that teeming, crackling energy that seems ready to burst across the whole scene. On the other side, the calm, yet building power of the trees and plants keeps me in suspense. I know he's up to something, but the unpredictability of nature in general has me thinking, we haven't seen anything yet!

Wow, thank you for the positive critique. So encouraging~
Indeed the slight blue tint on the background easily confuses it for an underwater setting. Actually, I have considered an underwater scene for this piece, but since the client specifically requested a particular setting, I had to comply, so I shifted the hue from blue to green.
