I designed this mask because I wanted to make something that was constructed out of smaller pieces linked together. Once I had stained and assembled it, my brain decided that the only thing it could be was a mecha, but one from before robotics was a thing. Something vaguely mythological, animated by arcane magic. An oni is an ogre-like monster from Japanese folklore, so that fit best.
The only explanation I have is that this train of thought originated in a LARP game I played a few years ago.
Regardless of not understanding my brain on the naming front, I'm pretty happy with this design. The first draft one I made was just flat, and the part below the eyes didn't lay against the face very well. So I adjusted the design, slightly shortening that area, which means that when all the rivets are in place the mask is pulled into a curved shape which fits a face much better.
This is up for sale on my Etsy page, where there are some more photos (and a different color combination): https://www.etsy.com/listing/158471.....i-leather-mask
