As a matter of fact, the Castrol tom's supra started life as a four cylinder 2.1-liter turbocharged 4T-GTE, then in 1997 they had to shrink it to a version of the 3S-GT, which was developed from the IMSA engine and similar to the 3S-GTE engine found in the Toyota Corolla WRC car. By the early 2000s, for the benefit of torque, the Supra moved on to a 4.5 litre 3UZ-FE V8 engine.
So unfortunately the 2JZ-GTE was never used in the number 36 castrol tom's supra, i always thought it was, cause its a great engine, but for whatever reason, rotational mass, fuel consumption? maybe weight distribution, they canned it. They Still won at least 2 championships with the single turbo 4 banger, it was still around 480 to 490 hp.

No problem! The other odd thing about this car that i forgot to add to my original post was the fact that they opted for a single large turbo instead of the twin turbo the original I6 motor had. (I only know all this because it is one of my favourite cars from gran turismo 1 and 2 and i did a lot of research on it at the time).
Im just glad that such an obscure piece of information could eventually be useful, this was probably the best all round car in GT 1 and GT 2, and i bought the game on the day it came out, so it means a lot to me! This is a fantastic piece of art, and so recognisable that i was like "thats the JGTC castrol toms supra" as soon as i saw it! Instant favorite.
He's a favorite driver of mine, and it seems like everyone either has no clue who he is, or they think he's that failed Sauber driver who kept failing more at HRT. He did really good when he took over Montoya's McLaren in 06' ;_; and McLaren kinda gave a sub-par car that year none the less!
I agree completely! He did wonderful in those horrible HRT cars.. Way better than Karthikeyan! It was pure luck that Narain earned a better spot than Pedro! I don't get why they wanted him to be the face of India.. Chandhok was much more talented!
And I wouldn't worry about the native country biased :3 (Scott Speed fan for life<3)I friggen love Pedro de la Rosa, I'm American, and I agree with you entirely! He's such an awesome guy, and I'm so happy he at least has a test driver role at Ferrari now!

He's part of the spanish retransmision crew of our F1 broadcast and he literally eclipses over the rest of the crew. When he starts telling in antenna anecdotes or stuff happened in his older F1 years with McLaren, Jaguar, or the 23980230942 other teams and categories he's been in, or explaining how this thing that just happened had a similarity with something else that happened in this year with this team, and what did the engineering team work about it... you don't even care about the rest of the race preview.
I'm wondering how I managed to miss this earlier, cause it's several different kinds of awesome, being a GT fan (and Sega touring car as it also appeared in that game as well), it is a bit of an iconic car to say the least.
I can only imagine how long it must have taken...it's, impressive in more ways than one, very well done.
