Whistling Death, The F4U Corsair
To me, this is the sexiest warbird to see the skies of WW2. The F4U Corsair. This example showed up to EAA Oshkosh this year. There were just 3 Corsairs this year at EAA, 2 were decked up in Korean War Markings, this one was in WW2 coloration.

one of my FAVORITE AIRCRAFT EVER.
SR-71 and the F-14 Tomcat still top this, however

My favorite warbird of all time! (With the McDonnell-Douglas F-15 Eagle coming in a VERY close second!)
Learned about them during the run of the "Baa Baa Black Sheep" TV series back in the 80's, fell in absolutely love with 'em, and haven't fallen out.
Fun fact concerning the Black Sheep: My family's old doctor, in my hometown of Thayer, MO, Dr. T.J. Burton (who now resides in Kimberling City, MO), actually served WITH the 214th, and was the insipration for Lt. T.J. Wiley, portrayed by Robert Ginty.
How do I know? He had a picture of him and the rest of the squadron posed in front of one of the squadron's Corsairs (don't remember which variant it was, sadly) hanging on one wall in his office, and when I asked who they were, he told me. I've never forgotten that.
Just thought I'd throw that in.
