Hirashi Junichiro was a samurai. Not one of great rank, and far from being of a well-respected family, he was middle-rate at best. But, when his lord's castle came under attack, he held his own in its defense, until he had to fall back to the keep with more elite samurai to protect the lord. The lord was killed, though it was through no fault of Junichiro's, as Junichiro had been struck down by a blow that took him to the very edge of death.

Believing he could have done no more than he had for his lord, Junichiro accepted the title of ronin after his clan's fall, and took to wandering. But, one clan was much like another, and he wished to do more with his new lease on life. Following visions in his nightly dreams, he headed west, through the orient and to the west. His costume suffered along the way, pieces replaced by more western clothing, but he didn't care. He was seeing the world, and was a free man.
