Inner-Selves, No. 34, Part A

"No way, could one of the outsiders be strong enough to defeat an overseer?" muttered someone. "That's impossible, they're the strongest furs the thirteen units have to offer" said someone else. Zelia just knelt down in the same spot on her knees, she cried her eyes out and sobbed as she looked on at her fallen commanding officer; she simply could not believe this was happening, she'd only just spoken to him last night. Part of her wished that she was still asleep in SilverFang's nursery having a nightmare, and that her kind-hearted leader would come over and wake her up and then comfort her; but this was not to be. "W-who would do such a horrible thing?" Zelia sobbed.
Another youth sprite entered the area, everyone stopped and looked at who it was; it was Jinx the dingo. "I heard someone screaming so I came to find out what was going on, who was it that...oh, that, yes what a tragedy" Jinx said nonchalantly as he seemed to know what had happened despite the fact that he had his eyes closed the whole time. Jinx seemed completely unmoved by all of this, unlike the various other youth sprites that were in the general vicinity. Zelia looked at the dingo, with that unsettling smirk on his face, and those eyes that he always kept hidden from the rest of the world. She thought back to when Frenzy was being attended to in the medical ward, and how she felt comforted by Jinx when he expressed intent to make sure Frenzy received treatment. But then she was reminded of Zemy's warning to her -- be careful when dealing with the Australian unit.
"Was Zemy trying to tell me something more than that? Could he have known that something like this might happen?" Zelia thought to herself. Still Jinx said nothing, but it seemed as though he was looking right through Zelia, reading every thought in her head. "Yes...quite tragic indeed..." he said shrewdly. Zelia lost it, she gritted her teeth and clenched her fists, tightening her grip around her rattle, tears welled up in her eyes now from both anger and sadness. "IT WAS YOU!!!" the wolf shouted. Jinx stood there staring at her as Zelia got up and ran at the dingo, ready to attack him. As she swung her rattle in attempt to strike, a koala bear with a red lollipop- marked diaper stepped in-between Zelia and Jinx, blocking the attack with his own rattle. Everyone else tensed up, not knowing what to do. "Jake, step aside" Zelia said as the koala just stood there maintaining his blocking position. "No Zelia, as the sergeant of the Australian unit I cannot allow anyone to take up arms against my superior" the koala said as he looked on at her. "He's a murderer Jake, he has to pay for what he's done to Overseer SilverFang" Zelia said between sobs. "I know you're torn up about this Zelia, but this is no time to make such heavy accusations, especially when there's no evidence to support your claim!" Jake responded, trying to reason with his friend.
"I said move!" Zelia answered him. "No, remember your place Sergeant!" Jake said, sounding more forceful now. Jinx chuckled under his breath and turned around to walk away. Zelia saw this and became more enraged. "YOU WON'T GET AWAY, LEVEL TWO!" she shouted as she broke free from Jake's block. Her rattle turned into an excalibur-type sword, it had a pink blade with a magenta-colored hilt, and little triangle-shaped holes could be found all along the center line of the blade itself. She didn't stop there, she focused energy into the blade and the holes began to glow. She raised her sword and swung it, aiming for Jinx. "Bubble Bomb!" she declared. A large sphere-shaped bubble was quickly hurled towards Jinx, as it got closer, it turned red and got ready to blow.
Jake saw it and panicked, he quickly chased after it and hit the bubble away from Jinx with his rattle, it exploded not too far away from the building, the resulting shockwave from the fiery blast made everyone shake. Jinx was once again unphased, he walked a few more feet away and turned back around to focus on what was happening, but he tightened his grip on his own rattle now as well. "Alright Zelia, that's going too far" Jake said as he narrowed his eyes. He held his rattle out in front of him with both hands and focused energy into it. "Level Two!" he declared. His rattle turned into what looked like a crescent moon-shaped sickle used for harvesting wheat, except it was much bigger; the hilt was grey and the blade was the same color of emerald as his pacifier. The blade had round holes all along it. Because of the shape of the overall weapon, Jake only needed one hand to wield it, he clutched it in his right hand and made ready to dash at Zelia. Zelia came at Jake as Jake ran out to meet her, they were about to clash when Zemy quick-stepped in-between the two of them; he blocked Jake's weapon with his rattle in his right hand, and he pinned Zelia's sword to the ground using his left foot.
Both Jake and Zelia were in utter disbelief, they hadn't expected anyone, much less Overseer Zemy to stop their fight. "Z-zemy?" Zelia said in shock. "Overseer of Islands, where did you come from?" Jake said. "I'm very disappointed in both of you, you're friends, and yet you are both so quick to raise your swords against one another" Zemy said. "But Zemy, you don't understand..." Zelia said. "I don't wanna hear it Zelia, if you say anything else you'll just get yourself into more trouble, instead of picking fights with others and making unfounded accusations, you should've focused on taking Overseer SilverFang to the medical ward!" the chipmunk scolded. Zelia gasped, she didn't say anything, but she knew her tiny friend was right. "Some of you take these two to separate holding pens, the rest of you carefully take Overseer SilverFang to the medical ward so they can begin analysis, consult the research unit as well" Zemy said. "Yes sir!" the other youth sprites answered. Zelia and Jake were each escorted to the holding pens by two youth sprites, the others began to attend to SilverFang.
Soon only Zemy and Jinx were left in the area, Jinx casually walked over to Zemy and began to speak. "I'm sorry you had to get on to one of my subordinates Overseer Zemy, it won't happen again" Jinx said. "You know Jinx...for a moment there, it looked like you planned to kill Zelia" Zemy replied, not looking at the dingo. "Excuse me, what was that you said earlier about 'unfounded accusations'?" Jinx said mockingly. "SilverFang didn't trust you Jinx, and look what's happened to him now, I can't prove anything, but you are the prime suspect as of this moment, so don't try anything stupid" Zemy answered him. "I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about" Jinx said casually. "Listen closely Jinx, because I'll only say this one time, I'll be keeping an eye on you from here on out, and...if you do anything to hurt Zelia...I'll kill you" Zemy said, again not looking at Jinx. "Hehe, suit yourself, but mind your wandering eyes my little rodent friend" Jinx said as he walked away. Zemy was left all alone after that, pondering the events that had taken place thus far.
"Haha, you did alright with changing your first diaper Dash" Fidget said, trying not to laugh. "Ugh, I still say we should've gone 3 out of 5" the cheetah said, a look of disgust on his face. Chewy was now thankfully clean and dry, and was now ready to get back to their quest, although he was still very much exhausted having not rested as long as the other two. "Are you sure we should go now, you look worn out" Fidget said to the beaver. "I am, but I have just the thing for that" Chewy said in response. He rubbed the mark on his diaper and a small jar emerged right in front of him, Fidget and Dash looked at it, wondering what could be inside of it. Chewy opened the jar and fished out a small gummy treat that appeared to be similar to those gummy vitamin candies that you sometimes give to kids; the only difference is that this red-colored gummy was in the shape of a skull and cross-bones.
"What is it?" Dash asked. "It's an Ultra-Vitamin gummy, it's a nutrition supplement designed to help members of the Arctic unit that are worn out and exhausted but still have a lot of work to do, all of the unit's members are required to carry a supply of them in case of emergency fatigue" Chewy explained. "That thing's got a skull on it" Fidget said looking concerned. "Yeah, are you sure you weren't given poison?" Dash asked, sharing a similar expression. "Oh no, it's perfectly safe, here I'll show ya" Chewy said. He popped it in his mouth and chewed it up a bit, then swallowed it, after a moment or two he started coughing. "I knew it, I knew you shouldn't have taken that!" Fidget shouted. "C'mon little buddy spit it out!" Dash said as he started shaking Chewy. Chewy stopped coughing and caught his breath. "Sorry it went down the wrong way, I'm fine now" Chewy said. "DON'T SCARE US LIKE THAT!" Fidget and Dash shouted.
Chewy sighed and closed the lid on the jar, it vanished immediately. "Ah, that's much better, I'm full of energy now!" Chewy said. "You look exactly the same to us" Fidget said, looking at Chewy closely. "No I'm different from before see, it's written all over my face" Chewy said as he pointed to himself. "I'm not buying it, but I'd rather not stay down here any longer" Dash said.
The three of them climbed out of the sewer and looked around cautiously, hoping that no one else was around. "There doesn't seem to be anyone here, you'd think that they'd tighten security after that last fight" Fidget said, feeling a bit nervous. "Well I'd say we're better off for it, let's get going, that tower isn't far away now" Dash said. Chewy nodded in agreement and they set off towards the set of the stairs that Frenzy had been guarding the other day. They started running up the flight of stairs, not knowing what may await them at the top.
