A Johnny Cash cover, although the arrangement owes more to NRBQ with just a hint of "I Saw Her Standing There".
Most of the time I don't do full versions of the cover songs in my show; this one was an exception for a few reasons. For one thing, it's been a personal favorite of mine for some years and it fit perfectly in the theme of the show. The lyrics are fairly positive and the melody isn't demanding, making it an excellent choice to perform in fursuit. It was the only opportunity I had to play anything resembling a guitar solo, and it traditionally followed "Rock 'n' Roll (Part 2)", when it just seemed right to hunker down and do a "real" song while selected members of the audience still had their hand percussion and could help propel the thing.
You'll hear the Gibson guitar I actually used for the show, with the same old flatwound strings I've had on it now for a couple of years; the tone couldn't be any more humble or retro. It's not a perfect take, but it's better than I ever played it live, through the handpaws and the jumping around and other mischief. You'll also hear my trusty stage ninja lonewolfraven playing a real cowbell, as well as firr, who just happened to be in the house at the moment I was recording this, on the tambourine. I learned early on that second guitar parts made my performance look "fakier" than it actually is, so I went with electric piano to fill out the track; it makes everything less bluesy and more Archies, but that's not such a bad thing for a Rhubarb song. The weirdest thing about recording this was trying to do my fursuit voice without actually wearing the head.
I kind of wish I'd uploaded this sooner; it's getting time for me to cycle some new songs into the show and this one should probably be replaced as I change the theme. But it's one of those songs that I really wouldn't mind being associated with on an ongoing basis. It's done a million dollars worth of good for me.

Ted Nugent was the first guy I ever saw rocking out while wearing a tail.

Now if his political views were a bit more palatable...
