When you work with symmetry you want to make a graph to follow at first when you're first practicing it, it helps you get an understanding of good and bad parallel lines as well as intersecting lines while teaching you how to match one side to the other via the boxes of the graph. You draw on one side of the graph and effectively copy it slowly over to the other. Something I picked up in art class in high school and helped me learn how to make tribal art.
