sadly he's the subject of a lot of drama with people who think so highly of him that if he doesn't engage in small talk, follow or show his dick (yes, people pester him about that) they are quick to assume he's an asshole. Basically those people who are basically jealous that their instinct is to be jackasses if their idol doesn't notice them. Hell, when I first drew that picture of him and his sulley cosplay kissing Sulley, people sent me messages asking me why I was friends with an asshole and if I was close if I saw his junk. It's all terrible. I've gotten to know Drill and he's just a regular guy who wants to be treated a regular human being.
Also thanks!
Also thanks!
Adding to the gossip (potentially bad idea but wutevs), I think some of that stemmed from a very verbose reply concerning why he wasn't comfortable with being labelled as a bear, and the problems he had with bear community experiences. Many people have only reinforced his issues since, unsurprisingly. A shame 'cause he's a cool guy who now has a really cool orc-mode fanart.
Oh boy, drama that stems from not sharing the utter lack of personal boundaries that online porn communities take for granted!
Seriously, this is really really obnoxious. I feel bad for the guy, but I also don't want to get wrapped up in talking about drama. I guess that's the thing, the Internet is like a room full of drunk people. They're all assholes constantly violating public decency and decorum, yet the moment you point out you're sober and respond appropriately to their bullshit, they call you an asshole and stumble off.
And addressing Zollith: I actually know why someone wouldn't want to be labelled by or want to be associated with groups like that. I love bears. I think the trappings of the bear community are kinda dumb. Guess I just don't have the problem Drillbot has since I don't have the requisite body type to join.

I teetered on replying to this, but I'd like to think I'm pretty even keeled, so here goes.
Question for you: Is it any better assuming everyone is a creeper/wants to see your dick and acting cold to others than being a creepy dick-pic nagging weirdo?
I started using Tumblr in...October I think? I found AstroPolice and enjoyed her art, and then found Drillbot. I really enjoyed his blog (especially his OC orcs) and sent him a quick message shortly after +following him.
Nothing about his popularity.
Nothing about his looks.
Nothing about his dick.
It was literally "Hey, you seem cool, let's chat sometime."
The response I got back was both elusive and just a little rude, it also felt just slightly pretentious. Going on about how "friendship should be effortless" (my actual intent) and some other various bits about limited time and having other friends.
It was a turn off. It seemed like he was dancing around not directly saying "I'm not interested in being friends with you" wound up with assumptions.
Now.
I understand his experiences all too well. Lord knows he's got creepers and I get that, it's awful having people just straight up come up to you digitally or IRL and start talking about how they want to do sexual things with you. It's pretty fucking vile, and I get how that can turn people away from new experiences.
I also have had some pretty awful experiences in the bear community myself. Sometimes, it can be a great thing and feel very welcoming and safe. Other times it's just a corral of men divided into 10% "A" and 90% "B" where it can seem the entire thing is about Bs trying to get with As. It's hell on the confidence and is a corruption of what the bear community -could- stand for. So, yeah, I've been there too.
I -also- understand the impulse of not really wanting to be friends with someone who just appears out of nowhere. Everyone is allowed to have feelings about that.
It's great that you're friends with him, and this is a nice work. I don't think he's an asshole, I don't know him well enough to make a claim like that, and even if I did know him, I doubt I'd feel that way.
I do however feel that he's neurotic, cold and a bit on the unfriendly side. I understand his negative experiences, as I've had the same ones, but I don't turn people away like that. I could speculate on why he is the way he is, but what's the point?
Again, it's great that you're friends with him. I'm sure he's a good friend to those who are, but my experience with him was a turn off and he doesn't seem like someone I'd want to get to know.
