I found a set of Journey to the West porcelain figures, and here they are! Monkey, Pigsy and Sandy were bought in May, but the monk on the horse, Tripitaka, had a partially broken hat – so the shop ordered another and it arrived last week.
These may not be action figures, but they have a good squeee factor nonetheless. Monkey in the foreground is about 6.5 inches. (The pinewood carving of Maitreya Buddha on the far right isn’t part of the set.)
I’ve loved Journey to the West since childhood! :3

"Journey to the West" is an incredible Chinese story for children, and I always loved Monkey King a lot. I remembered watching the animated movie that was made back in the 1960s Japan with Frankie Avalon as the Monkey King's voice in the dubbed version. Even though it lacked other elements to the story, it was entertaining. ;)
If you have a Playstation 3, they do have the avatars of the 4 characters themselves for purchase on PS Home.

Sorry for the delayed response, it was the end of semester and really busy at work!
Have you seen this year's film adaptation of the myth? It was a "prequel" focusing on Tripitaka's first meeting with his bodyguards, and how he tamed them. I haven't watched it yet, but would very much like to: the bodyguards are gruesome monsters, with Tripitaka as a Van Helsing-type character, from what I hear. Lots of blood and gore. Some pictures here (no spoilers)! :)
