I think it's slightly smaller than 11"x14".
I know what you mean about being tacked down by the price of painting supplies for classes! I've spent somewhere in the range of $600 on oil paints and supplies for a single class this semester. We're not allowed to use student-grade anything for some reason, which is a bunch of shit.

Well, during high school I took a graphic design class that for some reason involved making a bunch of photo-manipulations rather than actually doing graphic design. One of the assignments was to combine an animal and a fruit or vegetable, and after a bit of thought I recalled that pangolins always reminded me of artichokes. So, I made this photo-manipulation. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v.....pangochoke.jpg I liked it so much that I decided to actually draw it a couple months later, and this picture was born!
The scales on its body have been replaced with artichoke leaves, a la this photomanipulation I made several years ago. That's why it's so green.
