The second trail assignment I was given by Ruralite was for an article about the power going out on a rural family, and how evidently only Grandma was content with the light and heat of an old fashioned fire. It was an intriguing challenge for keep details down by smothering them with blackness, but showing enough from around the lit edges too see enough to make sense of things. They eye rather naturally moves to the grandma, who is the only person in the group shown in detail.

What I love is how masterfully you managed the contrast. With only TWO colors, you've managed to perfectly define the difference between warmth and cold. I don't think I'd be able to manage something so cleanly. I also love the faint brick texturing, and the silhouettes around the edge of the hearth... brilliant, sheerly brilliant.
