This was a month in development. I started it when I joined FA.
A couple things happened at that time. My mate
bearhardt played a song for me in the car from The Book of Mormon (the musical by the South Park guys) that contained mention of a certain NSFW frog. I also was introduced to Pocket Frogs, which has totally eaten my life because breeding, collecting, cataloging and sorting brightly colored little digital animals is apparently my kind of crack. The two concepts got kind of conflated in my mind, though really more "bright colors plus the name 'Magical F*** Frog'", rather than the concepts getting conflated. Anyway. I wanted to draw a frog and I wanted it to be bright, crazy colors.
So I did. I drew a frog off a tree frog image. I thought the outline was really successful, actually. But that almost made it worse, because then the color had to live up to that. It's taken me a full month to gradually chip away at adding color to it, because I wasn't happy with anything, and none of the tools were doing what I wanted them to do. It sat for weeks with me just pulling the file up, only to sigh in frustration and give up. Then last night I decided to tweak all the colors darker and more intense and that the pattern shouldn't be geometric (like so many of the Pocket Frogs are), but instead inkblots (like the more 'natural' or 'abstract' Pocket Frogs), and I was finally able to finish him. I dub him Rorschach, although I probably won't be using him, specifically again, although I may do brightly colored frogs or salamanders just to play with color while I work on my more realistic drawings as well.
I think I write more than ANYONE ELSE in my comments. Oh well. I'm putting the original sketch and an alternate white version of him in the Scraps, so go have a look!
