Commissioned full illustration for Lionel! Accompanied by his baby dinosaur companions, Milo the time traveling smiladon visits the not-so-distant future, to find nature reclaiming a once vast city. I had so much fun with this one, it was a really awesome open ended concept, and I got to stretch my art muscles a bit with a new challenging environment.

utunu... I've got a saber art piece in the queue too (Q2?)... cant wait... hoepfully, we'll see this in the fall.
Huh. There is a story in this. Even if there wasn't a story behind it to begin with, it's go a story somewhere in it. I'm not sure what it is, nor who's the right person to tell it, but this is one of those rare pieces of art that conveys in a single viewing what thousands of words would take to otherwise say.
I have always loved how you did the fur on certain creatures. Just the style alone automatically tells me it's your art when it pops up in my message box.
Just, WOW! This picture is just incredibly beautiful! You went all out on that background, and it's absolutely gorgeous! The way you did the foliage is jaw dropping, because it's just so detailed in both the foreground and the background! Congratulations on another AMAZING job! YOU GO GIRL!

Aaaaw, thank you! =D I've been experimenting with foliage a lot lately, realizing that I can imply a lot by being rather messy from the get-go. It helps a lot that Balaa shared with me a nice brush (well, it was linked on her tumblr), and that has been a wonderful tool to block in backgrounds!
This reminds me of the game Shin Megami Tensei IV; the hero travels a ruined world with demon companions and wearing his Gauntlet, which is a mystic glove with a computer system on it that he uses to map the areas and record information. The whole scene is just gorgeous, I'm literally in awe at everything. Always a treat to see your stuff x3
who will really inherent the earth? i know how humanity will fall, even if many will deny the process with their last breath.
and it won't be anything as entertainingly spectacular as wars, or gods floating down out of the sky.
it will not be the end, for there are no endings which are not new beginnings. if not of one thing, then of another.
we're doing it to ourselves now. and it's not like we have to give things up to stop, just change how we're doing some of them.
either way the time comes, when the bloated blight of humanity will be a history, reclaimed by greener diversity.

of course it doesn't have to be. humans aren't the only dumb thing in the universe. (just somewhere on the rather short list of them) but i always love the idea of having free run of ruins, because there aren't enough people left around to be able to keep each other out. in a world being reclaimed by nature. people who have only known the artificial world of cities, might not understand the alure i find in that, but i didn't grow up in them. i grew up in small, sometimes very small, towns in forested mountains. 11 years in one of less then a thousand total population (and that was counting dogs cats and chickens) and 4 years in another place that had less then 50. (everyone had a post office box, and there were only 40 po boxes at the general store, which was also the gas station too. yes it was one of those.)
people can pretend to be the reason and center for everything anywhere, but there are some places, most places really, where it is easy to see they are just being silly to do so.

What an absolute triumph this picture is! I'm so glad I found it.
Excellence in anatomy, coloring and shading, but I'm most impressed by how many layers of architecture and landscape you have put in here. From the tiger and the clouds, how many layers are these - five? Six? I love it!
