Tali At 20: TaliVisions #1 Cover
Since Tali's official anniversary is next Tuesday, I've decided to make this week a retrospective, running various and sundry pics from the early days (as well as occasional other treats). To this end, I'll also be lifting my customary 1 a day upload limit. Don't you feel lucky? ;)
This is a scan of the actual cover of TaliVisions #1, second printing. The first printing was on a day-glo green paper, so if you have one of those, you have a collector's item! (grin) The first four TaliVisions covers riffed on the obvious pun, with Tali showing up on various TV sets. We start off with your classic pre-UHF clicker set, complete with rabbit ears and glamourous gal on the screen. Ed Zolna of Mailbox Books (now Second Ed) provided the pic of Tali, while I composed the cover and television set using ClarisCAD on my trusty Mac SE. This combination would continue through issue 3... As you can see by the bottom blurb, Ed was also the exclusive distributor.
As fanzines go, TaliVisions did quite well in the pre-Web days; I generally managed to move a couple hundred issues of each. I'll be doing a CD-ROM of the first six issues one of these years...

Issue 1 and 2 came out in 1993, 3 and 4 in '94, 5 in '95 and 6 in '96, if memory serves.
Yeah, 1 was the especially good issue; I think I wound up moving about 180 or so from Mailbox alone, but always around 100 copies per issue, including contributor copies... :)
And of course, #4 is sorta legendary, as that one has the 13 page Reed Waller sequence with Tali and Low in the Japanese bath. ;)
