Military artwork #1 - The Fox and the IFV
To commemorate my service in the Finnish armed forces I commissioned this piece from the awesome iPoke!
The details are exact, the uniform, vehicle (the same damn vehicle number) and even the headgear, all the ones I used myself while in the army. iPoke did an awesome job of fitting the helmet, that was defnintely not desinged to fit on the head of a fox, on my character. I didn't expect him to pull that off honestly.
This is Scar enjoying some field rations after some time at the front in his CV 9030FIN in the background.
I fell in love with these IFVs and this (171-5) one particularly during the 8 months I spent with them. She had her own qualities that distinguished her from the rest of the CVs and I wouldn't want it any other way.

With modern tanks and powersteering you don't have to be particularly strong to drive one, although it helps a bit with track repairs.
I wanted to be in a leopard 2 crew as well, but I was denied a transfer to the Leopard corps because their base is too far away and the army didn't want to pay my tickets there and back home again every time I'd have a weekend leave.

Well, current economy sucks so they're trying to save money wherever they can.
When I was conscripted, I thought that if I'm going to spend a year of my life in the army I might as well do something else than freeze and be eaten by bugs. I couldn't help but feel like I made the right choice when I watched the infantrymen run around in mud, snow and rain while I sat in a semi-comfortable chair in a dry and heated tank protected from the weather, bullets and shrapnel.
My condolences if you had to do that yourself.
But on the other hand we'd spend a lot of our free time in the evenings fixing the tanks over at the tank depot while the infantry dudes would sit at the barracks and do fuck-all.

Well that's a bummer. I wanted to crew a Leopard 2 at first, but the army had filled its quotas for Leopard crews and I wasn't accepted. They put me in the next best machine though, and I don't regret it one bit. The CV isn't quite as impressive as an MBT but it is still a great machine and I love it to pieces.
