Well ladies and gentlemen...It is finally finished. I have been working on this on and off for the last few years, and its finally finished!!! I am pleased with the outcome of this image. It is my first digital painting that I have taken my time to do! AND WITH A BACKGROUND! This took a loooooot of time to do...but damn. I am happy it is finally finished. The character other than shippy is my friend
jonas-pride 's character. I love his tail flame. And he told me it doesn't go out under water, :3 WOO!!! I hope you guys all like this. It took so much effort!!

The hair is amazing, I honestly think that's the highlight of the piece. The scene is set up well, and there's a interesting vibe of emotion that peeks curiosity about what the story might be. I feel it could have been pushed a little further on the parts that face away from the light. The definition of the leg that faces towards the darker end of the cave where Moo's leg is for example, is rather sharp, when it should be very soft looking. That's actually nothing big, especially for a first painting. The hair, again, perfect I feel, and the background has good depth.
Wonderful work! But a bit of critique if you'd like:
For the background, don't worry too much on the detail when it comes to the far rear of the background. In addition to the lighter thing are the farther they are, the farther things are, the less defined they are and the less work you have to put in those particular areas.
One other thing I noticed, is that the main character are underwater, but it looks like they are floating around midair.
The best way to help this out is to add more bubbles around the area. Maybe some sea life, starfish, a bit of kelp here and there, clams, coral, reflective light on the subjects, defining the surface of the water or a adding a school of fish or two. If those bubbles coming from the characters weren't there and if their hair wasn't the way it was, I would have thought that they were in a cave and they had mysterious floating powers.
Backgrounds are awesome, yes, but giving subtle clues in the background not only enhances the background, but the characters as well.
You can also detail the fur almost like you detailed the hair. As long as it flows in it's respective direction.
Great work though, I can't wait to see the next piece you make!
