Part two of my commission for a very sweet lady at the carving club I belong to. She gave me 5 pictures of her daughters rescue animals to burn for her. This is Xena =)
**Meant to mention this!
This burning was done on Pine and in my experience it is not the best to work with. Most pine pieces have such a stubborn grain, and the moment you touch it with the burner it seeps sap. It smells wonderful! But it makes it very difficult to keep even tones when shading. I would normally avoid this type of wood but the commissioner supplied it to me for free without this knowledge. I did not want her to feel like she had wasted her money but did explain to her the dilemma we might face. Luckily, she seemed to pick some decent pieces =) Little grain, but still....a challenge XD

That does not sound harsh at all! I actually agree with you, I am not too fond of the eyes but thats just how this particular reference picture has them. One looks different than the other and it bugs me LOL the need to make them look the same is torture, but then it wouldn't be true to the actual puppy in this pic =)
