Well - hello again! Remember me? Over the last few months I've been totally distracted from writing music because I've finally started seriously attempting to learn the guitar for myself. And it's going slowly, but it's exciting to see every little improvement as it comes. But at the back of my mind, I knew that this album needed finishing, so here's the second last song from it.
Yes, the second-last - I've decided to drop "The Last Day" and save it for the future for two reasons - I realized it didn't really fit with the theme of the album, and it was also getting far too long to be included (it would have put this one up to four ten-minute songs, as I had no idea that Invisible would turn out that long). So even though I released "Invisible" first, I've shuffled that forward to the eighth position, restoring 'Wonder' in track 7 where I wanted it originally. Anyway.
This one's more synthy and decidedly loud and obnoxious, because I wanted another positive song in an attempt to balance the album's decent mixture of light and dark moods. A lot of metal music can be very pessimistic - as a contrast, this concentrates on the good we have in the world and what we've achieved. It's actually quite an old song, because I keep a library of scraps in my Modplug work folder that were never finished (there are far too many of them), and this one was one of those that was started all the way back in 2004 under the virtually random name "Alexandria". By the time I'd worked out where the song was going the subject had almost completely changed, but that word did survive in there.
The instrumental came about because I remembered a fantastic tune that came as part of a music package I had on the Commodore 64 about twenty years ago - after ages of trying to remember what it was I finally found that it was a song written for the launch of Telstar. And it's translated into here because I think it has the same spirit that this song tries to celebrate. There's a clip of the original here.
So this is now the seventh, Invisible is the "last", and I've got a "bonus track" to upload after this which should be arriving shortly. After that I can concentrate on trying to translate these things into GP5 format, and maybe release some tabs!
[Lyrics]
Now it's so easy to hate this world
When we see all the damage we've done
We're fighting ourselves, spreading war and hate
And we can't see how far we have come
There is still someone, down here below
Making your dreams come true
Believe in yourself, fly ever higher in your mind
And spread the message
How can you tell me you hate this world
When you see everything we've achieved
Our world built from nothing, our future hopes
Are a symbol of what we can be
We have brought light into the dark
We can mend minds and hearts
If we unite, our only limit is
The power of our dreams
Glorious together we can be again
To cease the war among ourselves
Together we'll be strong
We'll join our hands as one
Forever we will be
A wonder of the world
We have a chance for a better world
And we can't stay unheard anymore
You can't see you could live in paradise
Cause you'd always be searching for more
But if we try, in some hundred years
Maybe the blind shall see again
Forgive and forget, we can be stronger than we know
Yes we can
Pushing together, we can go far
Living the dream of Alexandria
And bring to life the power of our dreams
Glorious together we can be again
To cease the war among ourselves
Together we'll be strong
We'll join our hands as one
Forever we will be
A wonder of the world
[Instrumental: Telstar]

I may repeat myself, but you're one of only a handful of musicians on this site who really have a distinct style by which one could immediately recognise the composer. Again, this is very upbeat, even aggressive and plays very well with dissonance and tension. I particularly like the synth coming in at about 3.10 - complements the background extremely well. Nice stereo effects on the drums, too.
You know, it can't be easy to make super-happy power metal with lyrics about believing in dreams and such without it coming across as totally ridiculous, but somehow, this...well, this works.
It could be that, lyrically, I'll accept just about anything short of some Falconer songs if the music is rocking enough (see also: Rhapsody of Fire, Heavenly,) and this is definitely rocking. I love the tune you have here--you certainly accomplished your goal of making something upbeat. However, just reading the lyrics and trying to consider them in and of themselves, I really do think they work...or at the very least, I don't see how it would be possible to do better.
The positive message sort of reminds me of Lost Horizon, and I swear that's not as insulting as it sounds. I only mean that they also make a point to try and have a positive and uplifting message and I think that's neat. (I don't mean to imply that you enjoy dressing up like you're trying out for the WWE and writing songs about Highlander that include lines like "La la LAAAAA la la la, la la LAAAAAAAAAAAAA la la la, la la la!")

I wasn't really sure how people would react to the lyrics for this song, because as it has its roots in 2004 some of them were showing their age - I did try and update them, and I think I got rid of most of the more dodgy ones. I did want to aim for them being a bit deeper in meaning, but if you think it's worked, and the song goes with them, I must be doing something right =)
I still haven't actually listened any of Lost Horizon apart from that, er, incredible Highlander tribute - but even though they're clearly completely insane, and seem to carry that madness over to their real selves rather than having it as just part of a band persona, I thought they were pretty brilliant. They're not afraid to go absolutely mad with it, and somehow it all works. There should be more happy metal :)
Oh, and this might mean something to you - this song actually grew out of an experimental file where I was trying to do the chorus of Iron Savior's "Titans of Our Time". The use of the slowed chorus and the chords for its first two lines are the same.
