I believe she had just emerged from her cocoon that day. My neighbors found the cocoon and were going to give it to me (they know I like bugs) and it came out before they could.
Most saturnid moths I've come across have been relatively easy to handle...often because they are near the end of their short lifespan when I come across them, thus they are weak.
