So rare is it that I come across a movie or television show that leaves such an impression on me artistically speaking that I feel the need to make fan art of it.
In this month's Previews catalog, there was a music box featuring No Face, who is my favorite character from this movie. I sent an email to the owner of my local comic book store and asked him to order one for me. Because No Face.
For the hell of it, I went on eBay to see if there were any decent Mononoke-Hime figures that could go on the shelf next to No Face, because that is my other favorite Miyuzaki movie. (For the record, all of the good Princess Mononoke figures I've seen were upwards of $500. ICK! There is one of San with the head of the Forest spirit for about $15... but that one is 'meh'.)
After looking at the studio Ghibli Toys on eBay and Amazon, I did feel the need to spend my late morning and lunch period drawing a quick little love letter to these movies that I love so much. In my own drawing style, of course.
I hope to draw a Mononoke themed picture as well, but that one will have to wait.
Anyone who know me knows that I really can't stomach the vast majority of Japanese animation, but most of Miyuzaki's movies are a huge exception.
I say 'most' because I just couldn't get into Ponyo and there are a few of his movies that I have not seen, yet. One of the ones on my 'have not seen' list is My Neighbor Totoro. Blasphemy, I know.
Anyways. Art that I owe other people will now resume now that I have this out of my system.

I've heard the same thing from others. I just haven't seen a DVD or BluRay copy so I could watch it. That's also the same reason I haven't seen Totoro, yet. >_<
The only reason I've seen Castle in the Sky is because they played it on Cartoon Network years ago. I keep wanting to buy a copy that one because it was quite good, but it always slips my mind.

Ponyo is the one I just couldn't get into. The Nostolgia Critic pretty much summed up my thoughts of it with his review of it. (LMAO... the mom's psychotic driving). Liam Neeson's character was pretty cool, though. >_<
I.... really don't know how I'm going to react to Totoro when I finally watch it. A lot of what I've seen looks... odd, but then again so did Spirited Away. I'm really trying hard not to make judgement on it until I see it.
And yes. Howl is a very beautiful character. :)

I have to say that Spirited Away is one of the only anime-style things I can handle.
I can handle certain shows (FMA looks good), and certain fan art in that style (like, waaaay better quality than my artwork), but I dislike the vast majority of anime and anime-inspired art.
Mostly because my friend became obsessed and ruined it for me...
