It was a real bitch trying to find color references for some of these guys. This pic was done way before Wikipedia or Google, when the only references I had was what I could find in libraries. Somewhere there exists another picture with the wolverine and badgers, but i don't know who bought it and I never made a copy or scan of it. Oh well. I still do have the original black and white inked version, somewhere. This was also done with markers.

THANK YOU for posting this! The last time I saw it was at an art show where it sold rather well (I think Oncilla bought it?) Since ferret is my main animal-type, I'm pleased that you did not show ALL of them as vicious. Some seem rather happy and playful. Flying Coyote - Phyllis White was a Philcon regular with a travelling library of animal books that would've been ideal reference material.
I still have my copy of this, although it's in the loft for the time being, after my recent move.
I have a new favourite marten though: the yellow throated marten, the kharza. Very pretty. I cooked up a semi-melanistic version with black guard hair sufficiently lush to purportedly create an 'ember-like' effect if the wind parted the pelt to show the normally coloured underneath. Works better in words than it would in real life, I think. :)
