Well, people… you had to wait long enough. I present to you: a very new artwork of Reptile! A beach poser, more or less… but it shows my character in the most detailed and best way possible. And the scale texture is back! ^^
Originally, this artwork was supposed to be a “remake” of this older poser:
http://www.reptile-universum.de/rep.....le%20Poser.jpg
But when I started drawing, it looked weird to put Reptile on display… entirely naked and with no background. Furthermore, my buddy DJ did urge me NOT to cut off Reptile’s hands in the end.
So, I created this piece here and I like it very much. And Reptile still prefers his native loincloth over the fundoshi! XD
Thanks very much to my friend
djdarkfox for helping me with Reptile’s arms and his chest muscles (especially the ribs).
Enjoy the latest version of my scaled hero: Reptile Cynrik!!

Certainly a major step up from the other pic you linked.
The Good:
The eyes look much more spherical and of an appropriate size.
The neck is a whole lot better, I can believe it properly supports his head.
I can see where the sun must be with the shadows in all the right places to me.
Sure the largest of the head-spikes and Pecs look to be slightly off-centre and asymmetrical, but that is realistic as far as I'm concerned. ^_^ My own face happens to be very slightly asymmetrical, after all.
The background. Really helps here. ^_^
Good emotion being displayed from Reptile.
The Not-so-Good:
I still can't help but wonder what his straight-ahead vision is like. I can't help but think he might have a blind spot somewhere - though I suppose a few decades with it would have taught him to deal with it.
And.........
Well......
Umm......
Actually.....
,,,,,,I think that's it.........
So on a 0-10 scale? I'd say a 9.6.

First of all, thanks for the long comment. :3
I would NOT compare this artwork with the older one, because it was only an IDEA to be a "remake"... but it's a new picture in the end... with a new story and a new feeling.
^__^
But I'm glad you lilke the new design here.
I can't see the sense in your "negative aspect" here. Dinosaurs and birds do have a "blind spot" and that's highly natural... and not a flaw, so to speak of!
Reptile does have a blind spot, too.
Yes. I admit that. So, why putting this aspect on a "negative" side, when it's a logical aspect?? This has nothing to do with a technical aspect of a critique.
The blind spot is logical and I am aware of this. But it's NOT a negative aspect.
Seriously.
Oh, and by the way... I would NOT dare to put my artwork on a scale 0-10, okay? ;)
The thought is nice and appreciated and I don't wanna sound ungrateful... but you cannot put my artwork on a scale without having some OTHER artworks (from other artists) to compare it to.
So, this wouldn't work. We don't need it.
I appreciate your comment and thank you very much. ^_^

Yessssssss! BACK in ACTION!! And my return comes with such a NEW REPTILE!!!! ^___^
The upper chest IS indeed new!! This design was suggested to me by DJ. It shows the muscles underneath the horn plates. I mean... this is a muscled chest, after all. And this is a much more dynamic and realistic design.
Okay, the old plates were nice, too... but too much like... turtles. XD
I like this new one.

Amazing job on the Reppy RC....one of the best detailed versions on him that you've done for color :) Yeah, I can see DJ's influence for the arms and chest details ;) A truly great job done here RC :) You keep amazing me with what you do with your great artwork...I also look forward to the DJ/Reppy artwork that's in the works I see mentioned on in your journal :)
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11112842/ actually it was drawn with something similar to a loincloth once XD
Most of all, I am very satisfied and happy that... I can still DO it!!!!!!!!! XD
After such a long time... no traditional piece... no Reptile..... :P
I thought I'd lose it. ^^"
The file is correct, I just had to re-load it from another file.
It might be okay when you restart your PC.
BUT you can also rename it... :D

Old school style! I just love your traditional scales. A long time ago I saw a scale-tutorial that you posted, I think on DA or somewhere, that showed your process for each individual scale. When I see your traditional pics like these I think "How does he do that to each and every single one @.=.@ " Quite impressive XD.
I guess that makes sense for large pictures like this one, but your technique for the scales still seems very similar to the tutorial I saw, if only in finished product. I can see the little highlights and shades of each scale which mean you did go one by one at one point XD I'm afraid I'd never be that patient haha. Jealous.
Cynrik, this is stunning! I love how much energy and dedication your poured into this image, it really shows off your Reptile while. It's clear much thought was given to the anatomy, scales, the finer details around the muzzle, the clothes and colour usage. A very nice example of how anthro dragon warriors should be displayed!
Keep this stuff coming, it's great!

This is a rare and great compliment, dude. And I really appreciate it. In fact, it sounds as if you think that... my design would be ideal... or at least quite fitting.
I like it. ^_^
THANKS very much for your words.

you know, actually. I think I see what just MAKES this picture.
those reflective highlights on his shoulder and head. adding in a reflection at the end of the spectrum that you'd see reflecting from his skin, especially at that angle just makes him pop off the page, I think this is maybe one of my favorites so far Rep, keep it up!

These highlights seem to make your day, eh? ^_^
(checking...)
Aw... yes! I also tried to add some blue of the sky on his scales... they do reflect the sky, too. :3
But I have to be more brave next time... adding more colours to his body reflections.
Thanks a lot for the large comment and for this small chat. ^^

as much as that might sound like a good idea, I do suggest against it, of anything perhaps reflect the color of the background lower down on his body with a lower contrast to show that the light is having to bounce twice to be seen, you might end up overloading the picture with shinys if you do it too much.

That is simply amazing. The detail in the muscle structure and the scale pattern...simply amazing. I love his pose and expression, too. Definitely one of the best pictures you've done of him.
Also, I don't blame him for liking the loincloth better than the fundoshi. The loincloth suits him. :)
Always good to see you, Reptile, and looking so very awesome, none-the-less.

Wow, I mean... how can I say into words that aren´t very repeated.... Oh hell, this IS AMAZING!!! :DDD
Through thi pic, I can cleary see the improvements of your traditional technique, believe it or not. I can notice the difference, the coloring is doing good as always, but the shading and the highlights are so realistics and believable if we talk about the volumes of the body, like the legs and the arms. But man, the reflection of the scales with the sunlight is very well maded :D I see my bracelet of salamander´s skin and the scales makes a white area with a strong source of light, just like this one. That white area is so amazing! ^ ^
Hmmm, I think I should follow your idea of the white area of the scales in case I draw one of my scaly characters into a clear open area, this is inspiring me for doing such thing.
Although I have a question. When you add the colors, you do first the background and later the character, right? because I can see outside of Reptile´s edge (where the earth is) a little touch of a less visible shade on it, which gives the idea of a background painted in a wall where Reptile is in fornt of it XD By any chance you never overpass the lines of Reptile when you add the background´s colors?
Regardless, whatever you do, this still a great pic from you that I would even want to buy it hahah XD. This is really incredible man, you´re making lots of digital work that your traditional art is becoming more special than ever ^ ^ I´ll look forward to see the next traditional art you have in mind ;D
Keep going like this, you always made my day with each personal work of yours! ^ ^

It's amazing how much I can impress people and friends with artworks... which were done for myself. This is great!
Im happy you like it and thank you very much for the large comment!!!
The scales are my trademark. And I'm glad I can still draw them well.
About colouring.
Yeah... I paint the background first and then the characters in the front. I usually work myself from background to foreground. That is something I took from oil painting. XD
And... hm... I just work clean enough not to draw over the lines.
:3

Each work, no matter what is, is really impressive :D And I always get in suspense to see more from you.
And yeah, it´s kinda obvious that first is the bacground and later the characters. Still, I can´t ignore that littleshade that are close in Reptile´s body on the background XD As I see that you try to avoid painting above the lines is what cause that little shade over there XP but well, still impressed that you don´t place the brush above the line heheh, it´s really amazing ^ ^

I DO see now what you mean with the "colour around his hand"... yes. The colour was floating a bit and I tried to save it.
Thus... the effect of "Reptile in front of a poster/wall" appears.
BUT this is because of the scan!!!
THE real picture at my wall (in a glass frame ^^ ) looks muh better.

Nice poser and the great detail of the scales. Fantastic job.
However questions, the right arm seems to be bulkier than the left, I know it is proportion however it just seems off for me.
Also comparing to the older picture the lips and around the eyes used a slight different color than the other, more vibrant and colorful. I like it.

The right arm is showing its front. We can see the full biceps, which is shaped like a coconut here.
It's very large and round from this angle.
His left arm (viewer's perspective: right arm!) is bend and flexing just a little bit. That might be the reason of the larger appearance.
Also his left arm is closer to the camera. XD
And yes. I'm using blue for the lips sometimes.
Thanks for the comment. ^_^

Oh, by the way... my "special critique comment" offer stands for YOU, as well.
Meaning... you can send me a link to artworks (most likely, NEW artworks) which you want me to write a comment.
So... if you have a new artwork and you really desire a constructive helpful comment... just send a link via shout box.
^___^ Or via note.
You know my comments, after all.

One thing that was confirmed with this image is that figures in your traditional drawings have a definitive difference to them in terms of weight and pose. In your digital drawings your characters seem tense, like a forced pose or overtly flexing themselves to maintain rigidity and all the while generating a sensation of anxiety whereas here there is a relaxed atmosphere around them as well as feeling more "there". Like they are one with the image yet a distinct agent separate from it. How would you go about describing what I am failing to articulate in any meaningful way.
Yes... I know what you mean.
It is really simple...
... most of my digital artworks (this may even count for a lot of other artists) simply look...
... artificial.
But my traditional drawings don't. ^_^
Yepp. And it's plain and simple: this here was done with real media. Real flesh and blood, in a matter of speaking.
Digital artworks are... just electronic pixels and stuff. They lack soul and grasp... depth and flesh.
At least some of my digital works... not all of them.
Traditional media is pure material... real ink and colour on real paper. You can feel it... grab it... feel the weight... smell it.
XD
I guess... that's what you mean.
And I agree.
