Well, as long as you're feeding it the kinds of things it'll find on it's own, then it should be fine. Just have to teach it what things are "food" and what isn't.

We got our call returned by the local wildlife preservation organization. We're going to build a surrogate nest in the same tree, since it's likely that the parents are still around since we haven't found THEIR corpses. They should be able to care for him in that one instead, if they're around... if they're not... well... we gave him the best chance we could, since the nearest sanctuary is a 5 hour drive away, and while we're not afraid of being fined for feeding a bird (Seriously, who's going to enforce that?) we're feeding the little guy every 2 hours, and it's getting tiresome... plus, the cats know which room he's in, and they keep scratching at the door. He's not staying and we don't WANT him to stay, but we DO want him to live.

The parents will hear him and feed him if he's in a box or basket up in a tree. He looks almost fledge age so don't be surprised if he jumps out again.

If it starts to coo at you and look expectantly you done goofed and are now parents.

Sadly, this little guy jumped out of the surrogate nest we built him and injured himself fatally. It was very sad. After all that work, it was for nothing. I guess he just wasn't meant to be.
