How cute! Makes you wonder how Twilight first got into reading books.
Perhaps, after seeing her all frustrated at the book with words, mom and dad went out and got her a picture book? I'm sure the pictures, with words underneath, started a fire in her heart that lead her to become the Princess Twilight Sparkle we know her as today.
The pose and coloring is cute. I also like how, in a way, it is like the "Filly Twilight Sparkle" card you can get out of a pack of the MLP: FiM Fun Packs. She is much younger in your depiction. But, if you put the two together, you can see a progression that has had one thing in common throughout her life, "Research". :)

I got to thinking about what you said about the baby rainbow dash story, and so I looked through all the baby pictures of the mane 6 done by CuddleHooves, I might do a story for each of them ^^
I like to think that Twilight probably looked at books long before she could read, I think she might've even tried to copy the letters using crayon or paint before even knowing what they were, might've made her parents wonder when she learned to write, hehe
I imagine that if you were to give Twilight an IQ test, she'd test out either close to or within the genius level, if such a program existed, I'm sure she would've been labeled G/T (gifted and talented) during her school years
Growing up, I think her parents would've been concerned that she spends more time reading new books than making friends, almost anti-social in a sense, as you can see, my head is full of ideas heh ^^

You definitely have some extremely well thought out ideas. All of which I hope you consider putting into action via the art of writing and/or illustration.
