"And quote the raven, Nevermore"
I speak this as this picture does immediately take me back to that infernal poem of Edgar Allen Poe's. I say this mainly because of the eyes here. Deep violet and four of them looking to hold nothing but scorn and desolation. I suppose with the name like "Darknyss," that's to be expected.
The coloration here I like as it happens to consist of a lot of dark tones. Yet well managed dark tones. That being said as black is a hard color to shade in as a lot of people don't know that there really are "dark" and "light" shades of black. Though I'm going to call a lot of those very deep purples from what it looks like. However, design wise, I will admit, I love the tail added to what would have been a huge raven here. The tail happens to have the indigo 'eyes' within the end of it that resembles the tail of a peacock. That's creative to me.
Now, as there are actually two characters within the picture, I will have to comment on the second. Something of a transition from dark to light here. It's just a bit harder to do as Darknyss does take up the majority of the picture while Chiyra is practically hidden underneath it's beak. But in contrast, Chiyra happens to look rather frail here, if to even say frightened given her facial expression. [This may just be me and my interpretation of it after all.]
Overall, this is pretty poetic in my opinion.

good eyes (no pun intended) the design is a raven/peacock blend. and it is a very deep purple rather than entirely black, as many black birds actually have a color shine to their feathers.
and Chiyra is frail... she's relying on his power and size to protect her. Though he is the thing most others fear, she doesn't fear him. It's her own weakness that she fears.
