My male blowfish bouncer, Minagiru (previously seen here), in his normal, un-inflated state. As you can see, his natural form is actually quite svelte and toned, belying his impressive capacity for self-expansion. The pattern of lines decorating the collar, sleeves and hem of his shirt are actually zippers - as his body swells, the tension forces them open, allowing his clothing to expand along with him, rather than bursting apart every time he 'pumps up'.
Minagiru has slightly less control over his ability to inflate than his sister, Isamu, with his 'growth spurts' being limited almost exclusively to his muscles (though he can balloon his gut to a fair size if he strains hard enough). Furthermore, his capacity for air is significantly less impressive than his big sister's, to the degree that, even when puffed up to his absolute limit, he can achieve only about one third of Isamu's maximum size. He has long since given up trying to compete with her - no matter how much she tries to goad him into it - though he secretly hopes that he will someday be good enough to at least keep pace with his big sis.
Despite his chosen profession, Minagiru is gentle, sweet-natured and surprisingly shy. He dislikes violence, preferring to use his inflated bulk to intimidate troublemakers into backing down, rather than pummeling them into submission. Even when driven to action, he will always try to restrain or immobilize his opponents first, and will resort to knocking heads together only when absolutely necessary. Although he can be just as playful as his sister in his off-hours, he lacks her boisterous tendencies and penchant for mischief, favoring a more laid-back, zen-like approach to life.
Much like his sister, Minagiru's sexual orientation is somewhat ambiguous. He is so easily flustered by the subject of romance and sex that, to date, nobody has managed to get intimate enough with him to determine which way he swings (or if anyone has, they've kept the matter secret).
He enjoys folk music, vegetarian cuisine, tai chi, animation, and playing the kalimba.

Thanks. I really wanted these two to feel like people, rather than just "gimmick" characters, so I've tried to flesh out their personalities and interests as much as possible. Minagiru's always been gentle and laid-back in my mind (the concept of the soft-hearted bruiser is one I've always been fond of), so I wanted his interests and hobbies to reflect this light-hearted, zen-like approach to life. I wanted his sister's personality to contrast with his just enough to help differentiate them clearly as characters, while still giving them enough in common that it would seem perfectly plausible for them to be brother and sister. As for the rivalry - I figure any sibling pair with the ability to inflate would inevitably get competitive about it sooner or later, especially when there's an age (and size) difference between them. XD
I love Waltz's design too. I never would have thought of the zippered 'flex-points' on the shirt, but they make perfect sense, and eliminate the need for him to wear nothing but spandex all the time. I love the fact that he was able to make them look stylish and elegant, while still being functional.
