Forgot to ever post these, but ... wanted to share some photos of how the fursuit heads I make can be packed for travel.
They can literally be folded in half, yep.
My fursuit heads are soft, so pressing in on the cheeks will fold the head flat! This does not damage the fursuit head, no worries. I tend to pack my own fursuit head folded up in a plastic bag with tape wrapped around it so its super flat! So not only can you put them through the wash, you can also smoosh them ;)
The photos on the left were taken by me, the photos on the right were taken by the costume's owner. Have a fursuit head that I made? Take photos of yourself squashing it like this and share with me! 8)

Oh I know the ears will get damaged, when I took her out if the box, her left ear was bent, all it took was 10 min of me bending it the other way to get it to stay up again. Wasnt a big deal, I love my big ears, but omg are they such a hassle lol. Bu the way, I fixed my fursuit head from the heat damage, I sewed the holes back up very nicely! The only way you can tell its damaged is if you feel for the glue. Which I couldnt cut. It was so awkwardly melted from the heat, that there was no way to cut it without really damaging my head. But she is still adorable! I just need to be a bit more careful with her.
Well, you told me that the nose was "oddly shaped and weird," but didn't mention any construction issues whatsoever. The nose was meant to be permanent and would definitely take more time to replace than to fix up small stitches, etc. Sorry to hear you're having issues, the costume was sold "as-is" quite a few years ago. Hope to hear from you soon so fix any issues you may be having!
I just use createx paints. Everything is gonna wear off eventually, fur is plastic, cant really stain it permanently. There is very minor fade after washing the first time but not enough to merit a touchup. I did have to retouch the jackal fursuit I made a few years ago after 4-5 washings.
Eeee <3 Yes, this is a rather nice feature about your builds! I did a fursuit construction and care panel at the last MiDFur I went to... during one of the panels I dropped my Kat head on the ground and SQUISHED her with my foot. The audience was horrified to say the least. Don't be afraid to smush your head! It was designed to stand up to abuse. Being able to smush and abuse a head is a good sign that it is durable and was particularly well-made.
As long as you're not kicking it around like a football or something... though with a Jill0r head you probably could.

You can fold it yes, but I work with the same kind of foam, and it CAN loose its shape. I would say that you tell people NOT to keep it packed like that for long, or else it just causes a problem with having to wait for it to sort of get its shape back, or even having to reshape it by stuffing the head. (had to do that once with a head I made) :)
I kept my fursuit head in a vacuum space bag for a few days, took overnight to fully "fluff" back out :) I am not suggesting that anyone tries that at home, or keeps their fursuit head flat under books to save space, that stuff is pretty much a given "hmm common sense" sort of thing ;) but I do like sharing other aspects of my costume construction rather than finished looks alone :D thanks for your feedback! Been testing this stuff with my own fursuit I made over 4 years ago, the foam is still holding its shape and going strong :D
