Hero to SlaveIt had been a long and fulfilling day for the hero of the earth, Rob Snowden. Once again he had prevented everything from falling into darkness. For a world-saving hero, the man looked very much like your typical twenty-one year old. His attire wasn’t that of unbreakable armour with weaponry fitting for a brave warrior, but a green shirt with shorts of a matching colour. Rob was truly your average Joe in terms of appearance, but the people knew him as something more, much more.
Rob decided to take the long way to his house, travelling through the lush and vibrant forests. He had trekked through the forest many times in the past so he was accustomed to its layout. He walked at a steady pace, not really in any rush to return home, enjoying taking in the calm scenery around him along with the wildlife.
After about ten minutes, a cabin came into his view with beautiful flowerbeds spread all over the garden. There was smoke coming from the chimney indicating that someone was home. Rob knew who lived in there; being a hero of the world it was almost impossible not to know the people that lived nearby.
“It looks like Marley is in,” he said to himself, shaking his head. “I hope he doesn’t see me. He always wants to talk to me.”
Not wanting to get into a possible, unwanted conversation with the cabin’s occupant, Rob sped up his pace a little. However, his hastened walk was suddenly cut short as a small creature flew in front of him. The man gawked at the hovering creature with his eyes widened in surprise, for it was not one of the usual residences of this forest.
“You’re a...a...” Rob started to mutter, trying to make a coherent sentence.
It was a Celebi, one of the legendary Pokemon and alleged time traveller. For some odd reason, the floating Grass and Psychic type was sporting a pair of glasses with rectangle frames. The Celebi’s gaze looked deep into Rob’s eyes, a pleasant smile curling up on its face. All of a sudden, the Celebi let out a very feminine giggle and circled around the human while giggling happily even more.
“I never thought I would see a Celebi...” Rob spoke, finally managing to conduct a full sentence. “Is it a female one? I thought they said legendaries were supposed to be genderless.”
Rob attempted to reach for the overjoyed Celebi to pet her, but the Pokemon seemed too agile for him; hovering backwards at the last second.
“Yes, she is a female,” a male voice affirmed. “As well as my loyal, shall we shall, follower?”
Recognizing the voice, Rob sighed and looked over at a tree to saw a man was now standing there. The guy had shoulder-length brown hair, reddish eyes and he was wearing a thick brown cloak that hid the rest of his body. Celebi giggled and flew over to the human to sit on his shoulder like a tamed bird.
“Marley? I had a Celebi all this time?” Rob asked, taken aback by what he saw. “Is this why you always wanted to talk to me?”
Marley chuckled and reached into his cloak to pull out a cigar. “Hero, that is only part of the reason why I wished to speak with you all those many times,” he began to explain. Celebi took a lighter from her human companion’s cloak and used it to light Marley’s cigar. “I assume you will now give me time of the day?”
Rob was hesitant to reply. Even though he was curious on how Marley obtained a Celebi, let alone one which was very attached to him, there was a reason why he had previously refused to chat with him. Marley carried with him a distrusting aura.
Rob sighed. “Alright, so be it,” he said. “But make it quick.”
Marley chuckled and blew out smoke. “I am so glad you are finally deciding to take time from your busy life to lend an ear to a person like me,” he spoke, making his way over to Rob and placing his arm around his shoulder. “Let’s talk in my cabin.”
Against his better judgement, Rob nodded and allowed himself to be directed into Marley’s cabin. Once inside, the Celebi flew off her friend’s shoulder and disappeared into another room. Rob watched her leave his sights as he was led into the living room. With a simple hand gesture, Marley informed his wary guest to take the seat closest to the fireplace. As soon as the hero took his seat, Marley took his, placing his behind on an armchair to the opposite side of Rob.
“Are you thirsty, Hero?” Marley inquired after taking a drag from his cigar.
Before Rob had the chance to even reply, the Celebi flew down in front of him holding a silver tray with a glass of fizzy purple liquid. A broad smile curled up on her gracious complexion as she gently poked Rob with the glass, indicating him to take it.
“I...am not thirsty,” Rob kindly objected, using his finger to push the drink away. “I just want to hear what you have to say to me, Marley.”
“If you do not take it, Celebi will feel offended,” Marley informed him. “You don’t want to make her sad, do you?”
Celebi’s smile vanished for a sad frown to take its place, tears forming in her eyes. It didn’t take that long for Rob to take the drink from her, preferring not to upset something so cute. He glanced over at Marley before taking a small sip of the drink. To his astonishment, not only was it not some type of poison, but it was refreshing like lemonade. With an encouraging nod from the Celebi, Rob quickly finished up the drink, satisfying his parched throat.
“Wow!” he exclaimed, giving the empty glass to Celebi. “That was great! What was it?”
Marley grinned, putting out his cigar in a nearby ashtray, his eyes avoiding any sort of contact with Rob. He let out an unnerving chortle. Celebi glided over to him to sit on his lap. Rob naturally grew suspicious upon noticing the man’s sudden foreboding demeanour and rose to his feet.
“What was it? Tell me, Marley!” Rob shouted, glaring intensively at the guy.
Rob suddenly felt a weird sensation in his stomach, a powerful feeling of sickness overtaking him. He dropped to his knees and clutched his stomach in anguish, a scream leaving his lips. It felt like his insides were burning. Marley watched with a sadistic smirk spread across his face, petting his Celebi on the head.
“Oh my, it seems my potion needs a little more work,” Marley stated. “It still brings pain to whoever drinks it.”
As much as he tried, Rob could not fight against the pain in order to stand up. All of a sudden, two pink cat-like ears popped out from under his hair. Rob’s human ears shrunk into his head soon after. His nose expanded, giving a more bulge-like appearance. His fearful eyes grew to a large size and his pupils converted into a sky blue.
“Wh..What is hap-happening to me?” he blasted out in fear.
There was the abrupt sound of his shorts tearing before a long and pink tail shot out from behind, swaying in a wild, uncontrollable manner. Rob caught it in the corner of his eye and gasped. It looked exactly like the tail of his favourite legendary Pokemon, Mew. He quickly looked at his hands, discovering that instead of seeing his normal human features, he had the paws of a Mew too.
“Behold, Celebi,” Marley softy announced, smoothly rubbing his index finger against his pet’s head. “Soon the hero will become just as loveable as you!”
“N-N-No!” Rob cried out, both in anger and fret.
Rob started to shrink right before Marley’s eyes, reducing to a size almost equalling that of Celebi. His clothes, not disobeying the law of gravity, fell on top of him in an untidy heap. Celebi giggled and took to the air, her eye pupils giving off a purple glow. Using her Psychic, she lifted up the clothes and folded them neatly on the chair where Rob formerly sat.
“Good working, my slave,” Marley congratulated, rewarding the female with a pat on the head. “Now, let’s see the former hero now.”
Where the respected hero of the world once stood was a Mew sitting on the carpet with dull and emotionless eyes. Celebi giggled in glee while she swiftly landed by the Mew, helping it to its feet. The new and improved Rob simply stared gormlessly at his fellow Psychic-Type, wondering where he was.
“Do you see, Celebi? His,” Marley spoke, his tone sinister, getting to his feet. “Sorry. I meant HER mind is now gone forever. With a new form must come a new mind. It’s a two for one deal.”
Rob turned his attention to Marley, a smile gracing his face the instant he saw him as if the human was someone he utmost respected. The dullness in his eyes brightened up, the sky-blue colour making a return.
“Mew!” he chirped in a joyful, female voice.
The Mew floated upwards, giving Marley the biggest smile it could muster. Marley chuckled and rubbed under the pink Pokemon’s chin with his finger.
“My Mew slave, do you know anyone by the name of Rob Snowden?” he inquired, moving the same finger up the side of Mew’s face, stopping by her ears to scratch behind them.
Rob, or rather now just Mew, shook her head. The cunning human’s declaration to his Celebi slave regarding the mental state of the former Rob Snowden was true. Not only had the memory of his previous form and life been wiped away, but in its place was the memory of being Marley’s devoted slave for life.
“The world will have to find a new saviour!” Marley declared followed up by an evil laugh.
Celebi joined Mew at her side and together they shared a jubilant giggle. Marley turned around with a dramatic swish of his cloak and walked out of the room, followed closely behind by his duet of faithful slaves. Mew sat on her master’s right should while Celebi took her place on his left.
“Come, my slaves, I think it’s only fair to tell the people of this earth that their saviour is no more!” Marley stated, exiting his house and walking into the night. He ended his wicked plan with yet another evil bout of laughter.
