Anche se la parola Avis, di derivazione latina, viene utilizzata per designare animali come gli uccelli, l'Avis qui rappresentato è in realtà una sorta di ... hm ... drago alieno.

Essi cavalcano le tempeste, pur non essendo dotati di vere e proprie ali quanto di rudimentali vele su tutto il corpo e di solchi cutanei che penetrano in profondità nel corpo stesso, fatti per incanalare il vento. Queste creature si reputano estinte da oltre tremila anni, cacciate fino all'estinzione dai draghi stessi. Gli esseri umani non hanno mai avuto controllo su bestie simili e questo preoccupa parecchio la nostra comunità"
