I saw my first wild kestrel this winter and painted it as soon as I got home. He was sitting on a telephone wire in Omak, Washington. All alone, with a foot of snow on the ground. He was beautiful, I only got a glimpse of him through the car window, but even then I could tell that he was a magnificent and adorable creature.
This is a painting over an old sketch that I had on this canvas, I didn't like the sketch but I didn't want to waste the canvas.
