Lord Grey II is, as is axiomatic, an archmage. He achieved his archmagehood in Ablation, the last of the magical disciplines to be formally recognized thousands of years ago. As a discipline, Ablation is best thought of as meta-magic: magic that defines or affects magic. As far as the non-magical sciences go, Ablation is most analogous to Mathematics, and indeed, Theoretical Ablationists are the most accomplished mathematicians in the University. There are four sub-specialties in Ablation. Though expert with all of the related subject matter, Grey specializes in the phasing magics. In layman's terms, phasing spells vanish things, making them temporarily cease to exist. The best uses of this magic actually relate to intangibles rather than the physical. For example, phasing is the best and most efficient form of counter-magic known, and the more spectacular phasing spells affect abstract ideas. It is possible to tamper with the laws of physics/magic by making, for instance, the abstract concept of death cease to exist (though, it should be noted, such a spell is both limited in area and temporary in the extreme). The ambitious archmage may make concepts such as justice, love, fashion, or logic itself disappear.
However, these spells are, by nature, not very impressive to watch. The more visually appealing, and more impressive to the magically non-adept, spells are those that affect the physical. Ablationists are known for their utter disregard for barriers of any sort. Grey in particular regularly walks through walls as if they aren't there (which, strictly speaking, when he does so, are not there). Items and people vanish into thin air.
Here we see Grey in the process of demonstrating this on himself.

alectorfencer in addition to the other commission I got at Anthrocon 2013!
This is actually the first picture that got drawn, but remains unfinished; she said that she didn't like it so had to start over with the Channelling Mana picture ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11253055/ ). I turned the unfinished nature of this picture to my benefit, and despite being unfinished, I rather like it!
